Throughout a lot of my projects, I have worked with floral headpieces and props. I intend to work with them again and great detail for this project, even intending to replace Jesus' crown of thorns for a crown of red roses.
When shooting my Madonna with flowers in her hair and in her hands, I want to create a sense of elegance, beauty and even touch on the erotic. Mapplethorpe, god that he is, produced some of the most erotic floral portraits I have ever seen. You can forget Georgia O'Keefe and her messy, over powering, heavy folds of petals, and take in the serene elegance of the Mapplethorpe flowers.
In some ways, they look less like flowers and more like bizarre angelic genitalia.
