I was pleased with how these pictures came out. Shot with a paper backdrop using two flash heads without modelling lights was an interesting experience, but I think I got it in the end. I think these have what I was going for, innocence and sexuality at the same time, and also perhaps a less harsh spotlight. I intend to shoot many different portraits of The Madonna at different times of her life, and here I wanted the light to not be too stylised; this is her beginnings, her origins, her early life. We all look back at the past with a haze of nostalgia.
